19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
